MAKA BORCHASHVILI
Pianist

She was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1977. At the age of seven she studied piano at a private school of music and at eleven years old played Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto no.2, giving her first solo recital at the age of twelve. At age 14 in 1991 Maka played Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto no.2 and Beethoven’s 3rd and 5th concertos, accompanied by the State Symphony Orchestra of Tbilisi. In Moscow, she was awarded a government scholarship after winning the “New Names Competition,” and in 1995 entered a competition in Senigalia, Italy. In 1997 she entered the State Conservatory of Tbilisi where she was taught by Prof. Revaz Tavadze and awarded for her work when graduating with the highest distinction. In addition, Borchashvili was granted the honor of playing alongside Liza Leonskaya in a master class.
While at the conservatory, she was awarded the title of “Best
Chopin Interpreter” in a competition and also with the “Best Virtuoso of
Preliminary Studies of Chopin.”
Maka Borchashvili gave numerous concerts in North Cyprus and teaches privately
in addition to her duties as instructor of keyboard and accompanied playing at
EMU.
