Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi Mütercim-Tercümanlık Bölümü, yazılı ve sözlü çeviri dalında lisans eğitimi vermekte olup, 2004-2005 öğretim yılında kurulmuştur. Bölümümüzün amacı mütercim- tercümanlık mesleğinin gerektirdiği bilgi birikimine, deneyime ve becerilere sahip yazılı ve sözlü çevirmenler yetiştirmektir. Lisans programımız öğrencilerimizin hem kültürel incelemeler, teknoloji, siyaset bilimi, sosyal bilimler, ekonomi, edebiyat, iletişim ve medya gibi farklı alanlarda bilgilendirilmesi hem de gerekli terminolojilere hakim olmaları için tasarlanmıştır. Bu programın amacı, Türkçe ve İngilizce’nin dil ve kültür bilincini geliştirmenin yanı sıra, üçüncü dil olarak Fransızca’yı çeviri yapabilecek düzeyde bilen çevirmenler yetiştirmektir.
Çeviri laboratuvarımızda öğrencilerimiz en yeni dil teknolojilerinı ve çeviri programlarını öğrenmekte, bu araçları uygulamalı olarak kullanarak eşzamanlı çeviri, ardıl çeviri ve film çevirisi gibi çevirinin farklı branşlarında becerilerini geliştirme fırsatını bulmaktadır.
Mütercim-Tercümanlık diplomasına sahip olmak bir ayrıcalık olup, bu meslek için sağlam bir zemin oluşturur. Mezunlarımız KKTC’de ve Türkiye’de devlet dairelerinde, uluslararası kurum ve şirketlerde, yayıncılık, gazetecilik, turizm, ithalat-ihracat sektörü, serbest çevirmenlik gibi çok geniş bir yelpazede çalışma imkanı bulmaktadır.

E.M.U Department of Translation & Interpretation was founded in the academic year 2004-2005. Our department aims to train translators and interpreters who acquainted with the necessary knowledge and skills required by the profession of translation and interpretation both in theory and practice. The courses on the curriculum have been designed to help students to be familiar with the terminology and issues in different fields such as cultural studies, technology, political science, social sciences, literature and communication; to train translators and interpreters equipped with a good command of French as a third language(C Language) besides English and Turkish, and with an advanced degree of competence in various software programs used in translation and interpretation.
In our lab the students get familiar with the translation technology, and have the opportunity to practice their skills in different areas of translation and interpretation such as audiovisual translation, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting.
It is envisaged that the BA in Translation and Interpretation is a limited qualification that would provide a solid entry to the requirements of translation and interpretation in this area. Graduates can enter the workforce in Cyprus and Turkey, and they work in a wide range of sectors such as government,international institutions and organizations, tourism, import/export businesses, publishing, journalism, and freelance translating.
